Hampshire Youth Theatre’s first production will be a vibrant and breath-taking adaptation of Shakespeare's romantic tragedy Romeo & Juliet.
The greatest love story ever told, Romeo and Juliet are the ‘star-crossed’ lovers whose noble families are locked in a bitter feud. Ignoring all the warning signs around them, the two, fall head over heels in love. However, tragic events are put in motion when Romeo is drawn into a fight with Juliet’s cousin Tybalt, forever altering the lives of the young lovers and everyone around them.
HYT is a new and exciting collaboration between some of Hampshire's most prominent theatre companies and venues. Directed by Alex Lonsdale (Tigerstripe) and Noël Jones (Discarded Nut), HYT will build a company of talented, committed, and creatively courageous Hampshire young people, to develop and perform every summer, epic and innovative site-specific productions of the highest calibre. Involvement in HYT, also offers a unique insight into the world of William Shakespeare, bringing to life the story, characters, themes, and language in a dynamic and accessible way.
