Nick Costley-White is one of the most in-demand jazz guitarists in the UK. Renowned for a deep understanding of the jazz tradition, he combines his virtuoso technique with a uniquely distinctive style of improvisation. Costley-White has performed with many of the UK’s most celebrated musicians, and played to audiences across Europe, Asia and Australia.
‘Poncha’ is Costley-White’s highly-anticipated third album; a deeply personal collection of seven original compositions named after the Portuguese drink ‘punch’. Using a heady brew of cultural influences, his music skilfully blends dance rhythms and playful melodies from Brazil and Cuba with the harmony and swing of American jazz. Within the tunes lie a melodic and highly rhythmic approach to composition, inspired by his travels to South America, which his quartet interprets with style, flair and energy.
“A lyrical improviser with a crystal-clear sound…his swing feel is beautifully laidback.”

“The range of moods and soundscapes created is striking. De Souza’s playing is always absorbing and engaging, making this an easy album to recommend.”
Guitarist Mike De Souza leads his quintet Rick Simpson (piano/synth), Tom Barford (tenor sax), Huw V Williams (bass), and Jay Davis (drums), on a tour celebrating his latest album Chrysalis (Fresh Sound New Talent). Written post-lockdown, the title alludes to the emergence from a state of isolation, having changed in a positive way, just as a butterfly emerges transformed from its chrysalis state.
Fierce moments of high energy and introspective periods of calm and impressionistic beauty blend with multiple melodic layers and juxtaposition between acoustic and electronic sound to create an uplifting set that at times evokes a mood reminiscent of alternative-rock bands such as Radiohead, or indie-folk bands such as Big Thief, yet retains the risk-taking, exploration, and language of jazz.

“Simply riveting... Combining a jazz-infused guitar-meets-vocal vamping style with an indie-rock approach, Rosie Frater-Taylor is like no other guitarist today.”
Fast-emerging British singer-songwriter and guitarist Rosie Frater-Taylor is widely regarded as a virtuoso guitarist and a vocalist with a powerful emotional range and depth. Out now on Cooking Vinyl, Frater-Taylor’s new album ‘Featherweight’ (LISTEN HERE) deftly blurs the boundaries between rock, alt pop, neo soul, new-school jazz and folk. Drawing influence from the likes of Joni Mitchell, through PJ Harvey and Kate Bush, to the rockier roster - where John Mayer, Meshell Ndegeocello, St Vincent and Madison Cunningham hold court, ’Featherweight’ has garnered praise from an equally eclectic mix of supporters including : KCRW, BBC Radio 1, Radio 4 and Jazz FM through to MOJO (4*s), Hi-Fi (5*s), Total Guitar, Guitar.com and Jazzwise coining her “fiercely feminine”.
